I'm not going to lie to you--math has never been my thing. I get a headache when people mention matrices and probability and statistics. And let's not even talk about modular arithmetic, because I think I literally blew a fuse on that one. They make it seem all innocent by calling it "clock arithmetic," as if to say "any ten-year-old who can tell time can understand this stuff," and then they throw 7+8=1 at you, as if to say "Ha-ha, everything you've learned is a lie! Have fun making sense of your life!"
I am not a mathematician. But there is one concept I have a pretty good grasp of: basic arithmetic. I'm talking about that good old, mod 10 "1+4=5." I get that one every time. In fact, I'm so confident in my arithmetical skills that I've created an entire blog based on addition.
Sound boring? Nonsense! Addition is never boring when money is involved.
Here's the deal: I have a dollar. I was given this dollar at the beginning of the summer with instructions to multiply it in whatever way I saw fit. At the end of the summer, I'll gather up my original dollar (and whatever other money that's been added to it), and I'll give 100% of it to a missions hospital in Honduras called Hospital Loma de Luz. (For more info on the hospital, check out the "About Hospital Loma de Luz" tab at the top of the page.) Some of the people I respect most in the whole world (including my parents) work at this hospital, and I'd be delighted to have something to give them.
There are two ways you can help me with my addition:
1. You can donate! On the right-hand side of the page, you'll see a donate button. (It's yellow and says "donate." Can't miss it.) This will allow you to donate funds directly to my paypal account. I won't touch this money till the end of the summer, when I'll donate 100% of it to Hospital Loma de Luz.
I'm only asking for a dollar, just to match what I was given. God's really good at basic arithmetic too, and I believe he can multiply our dollars for his glory.
